VeruTEK® Technologies Announces S‐ISCO® Closure of Contaminated New Jersey Site Using VeruSOLVE™ Peroxide

Bloomfield, CT ‐ November 16, 2009 - VeruTEK® Technologies Inc. announced today that the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection issued a No Further Action Letter for a previously contaminated residential site remedied using VeruTEK®'s VeruSOLVE™ Peroxide. The use of plant surfactant‐based stabilized peroxide is consistent with VeruTEK®'s mission to provide cost‐effective, green and faster remedies for the 294,000 contaminated sites in the United States identified thus far by the USEPA that have not been remedied.

VeruTEK® completed remediation using their innovative, environmentally safe, and sustainable Surfactant Enhanced In Situ Chemical Oxidation (S‐ISCO®) technology. Both unsaturated zone and saturated zone contaminants were remedied beneath a residence where a heating oil spill occurred. Contaminants at this site were total petroleum hydrocarbons. After only two days of S‐ISCO treatment, contamination was reduced from 13,000 ppm to below regulatory criteria (less than 2,000 ppm).

Soil Sample ResultsEquipment

S‐ISCO®, a VeruTEK® Green Technology Platform, has been shown to be successful on source contaminants such as chlorinated solvents, insecticide/herbicide, coal tar, PCB oils, creosote and others. Source contaminants reside in the soils, slowly dissolving into the groundwater and represent the most fundamental problem in cleaning up the environment. Many technologies including ISCO, bioremediation, and pump and treat technologies treat only groundwater and not source contamination leading to temporary reduction of groundwater contamination. In most cases, however, these off‐theshelf technologies leave sites contaminated for future generations to live with.

S‐ISCO® is a transforming technology in environmental remediation. VeruTEK has been developing solutions based on the S‐ISCO® technology platform using different plant‐based, bio‐based, and biodegradable surfactants, oxidants, and builders to target specific contaminants in the environment. S‐ISCO® is the only remedial technology that can remedy source materials at depth and under buildings safely in urban and other environments. In addition, the development of S‐ISCO® Peroxide provides a very cost‐effective and sustainable alternative to digging, hauling and landfilling surface contaminants.
